Great News – Kings Lynn Vancouver increase membership!

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

A few Thursday ago I was joined in at The Stuart House Hotel, Kings Lynn by our Membership officer Andrew Kerry to attend Kings Lynn Vancouver’s Business meeting.  Other than the lack of food the evening turned out to be one of the highlights of my year so far.

The guys in this table have worked hard over the preceding months and have attracted only what I could call a flange of typical Tablers into their group.

The quintet who were inducted during the evening provided interesting and varied renditions of My Heart Will Go On (a bit too much if you ask me), Never Going to Give You Up (subs up front please),  Wannabe (I’d rather not), I Think We’re Alone Now (nope the reception is full of the laughing public), Baby One More Time (if you insist).

It was a great night and an honour to be part of it.  Good Luck and Happy Tabling to Steve, Paul, Richard, Matt and Cliff (Clive).

North Walsham Ladies Night 11-11-11

What a fantastic night! The food was good, the company was good, the music was….excellent and the drink flowed.  The crowd from Dereham really enjoyed themselves.

Well done to Roger and “Dennis” for organising such an enjoyable event!  You can see from the photos (thanks to all who took photos and put them on Facebook for me to lift!) that everybody had a good time

Night out on the Slots

The Vice Chairman joined me on an evening out with Norwich No1.  We had a great evening at Presto Park Slot Club even though Mark looks very serious!

Unlike most table nights it was very well organised, thanks to Presto Park and we spent the evening racing against each other in some very tense heats.  Tom (the guest) won, demonstrating that he had great skill in his index finger!

We finished the night off in true Table style with a celebration curry and pint of cobra!

Thank you Norwich, Mark and I had a cracking evening!

Mark spent an enjoyable Friday morning in the company of the guys from Kings Lynn & District 54 looking around Commander Ken Wallis’ private collection of the Wallis Autogyros.

Commander Wallis flew Little Nellie in the bond film:

Five a Side

Wednesday saw the continuation of the Areas sporting competition with a Five a Side hosted by Dereham & District.

Although my refereeing was downright poor the evening went well with good humour and sportsmanship (in the main).

The results have been published on the sporting prowess page, so please take a look to see how your table is doing.  Hunstanton – you do not need to!!

Thank you to the Dereham Hockey Club for accommodating us.

Thank you to Dereham & District for organising the food and not making me play!

NSW 2011!

The start of September saw the National Sports Weekend at Leeds.  Area 6 was represented by The Guys from North Walsham and a few from Kings Lynn 54.

Our lads done us proud! They came first in the Tug 0  War and second in the swimming!  The Area came 16 out of 29 overall.

Well done!

What will happen next year when we have a larger representation at Birmingham.  To see the details of NSW 2012 look at the link to the side of this post.

Left Hanging Around!

28th July – Saw myself and the Area Vice Chairman, Mark Older swinging from the trees at Sheringham with the guys from North Walsham.

I cannot say that this was my most comfortable night but Mark looked in his element.  I think the 40ft zip line nearly finished me off!

Although the activity was outside my comfort zone the fellowship was excellent, thank you North Walsham for inviting us along.

Dragon Boat Race

On the 24th July 2011 on the Whiltingham Broad, Norwich; North Walsham, Harleston and Norwich 1 entered the Dragon Boat Race in Aid of the Anthony Nolan Trust (please correct me if that is wrong).

This is an excellent event as can been seen by the photos taken by North Walsham.

I believe North Walsham won the event and the best dressed award with Harleston having raised the most (please again you will have to correct me if I am wrong).

Well done guys!

Bramley Lakes

What an excellent night, I hope all those who attended enjoyed themselves as much as I did?

It was a well-attended night by Table and it was good to see more Tablers at an Area Meeting than Honoraries for a change (although Honoraries are always welcome).  I would like to thank all of you that came.  The fellowship all evening was excellent; although my fellow tablers from Dereham did spend a very long time in the showers (probably taking fellowship a bit too far).

John and his team from Bramley Lake really looked after us and made the evening go so quickly.  John did take Duncan’s (Holt) crash on the Segway with good humour, mainly due to disbelief that someone could fall off going in a straight line!

Above are some photos of the evening which I hope you enjoy?

I have added the results from the night to the sporting prowess page.  If you have any issues tough!

Finally I am amazed that I got through the night without being thrown in the lake!!!

“simply messing about in boats”

Yet another excellent night out in the Area! This time spent with the young whippersnappers from Holt!  We spent the evening paddling from Horstead Mill to the Rising Sun and back again have stopped for some refreshment.

Other than having a kayak that would not go straight, getting soaking wet, cold and damaging my ribs trying to get out of the river at the pub I thoroughly enjoyed myself! Once dry and the boats were loaded we retired to the Recruiting Sergeant for a very filling dinner of fish and chips. Well fed, with an aching in my side that was slowing increasing with the warmth from the pub I felt very old and tired.  It is excellent to see another table with a vibrant programme, although I think I need a few months to recover before going back!  Thanks guys and good luck with the induction of the new members.

Babbysitting!

Today I looked after the Norwich Round Table Lunch Club on behalf of our Membership Officer Andrew Kerry.  Andrew was out of the country on business and had organised the event at Beluga (Upper King Street, Norwich), all I needed to do was show up and keep things moving.  It got off to a slow start due to a projector problem and a table collapsing but the food and company was good and it soon got moving.

The speaker at this meeting was Ian Thornton the Director of the Norwich City Community Sports Foundation.  This is a charity organisation whose vision is to “help people achieve their goals by delivering quality, innovative services through football and sport”.  Their web site is worth a look and explains in detail what it is they provide and to whom.  It is so much more than just football to school age children.

www.communitysportsfoundation.org.uk

Ian highlighted that they have set up the Sporting Light Appeal to try to fill the gap that the about to be cut funding will leave for their disability programme.  The foundation is looking for Business Champions, Community Champions and/or Sportasaurus Challenge.  This sounds to me like something your tables could get involved in, for further information please look at:

Looking forward to Andrew being back for next month’s lunch club!

Digging my time with Kings Lynn 54

Fantastic night out at Heacham with the guys from Kings Lynn & District 54. The night was a bit cold to say the least, the chilli and rice (what was left after Dave had been to the table) was excellent.

Sounds like they have got some fantastic nights out coming up in and around Kings Lynn, such as Segway racing and a tour around one of the largest factories in the UK!

Thanks for such a welcoming night with good fellowship and good luck in June with your scrap-heap style challenge!
